Abstract

A tutorial survey of some recent approaches to structural optimization is given. Emphasis is placed on recent work which extends classical energy principles. Consideration is also given to the Pontryagin Maximum Principle and an application to structural problems. Consideration is given to both the static and dynamic behavior of structures.
