Abstract

Breast cancer survivorship presents ongoing physical, emotional, and social challenges that often extend beyond clinical treatment. While survival rates continue to improve, many survivors lack adequate post-treatment support, particularly in underserved communities. The Living Your Truth Empowered (LYTE) Foundation developed and piloted a Health and Wellness Coach Training Program to address these gaps by preparing individuals—including survivors, advocates, and community members—to provide evidence-based, holistic support. This 16-week cohort-based program, funded through a City of Hope Healthy Living Community Benefits Grant, integrates the National Board of Health and Wellness Coaching (NBHWC) standards with curriculum content focused on: behavior change, cultural humility, ethics, and chronic disease prevention and management. The overall goal of the pilot program was to assess feasibility, obtain NBHWC accreditation, and collect information to tailor and revise future curriculum. The pilot training program began with eleven participants (54.5% Black or African American, 18.2% White/Caucasian, 18.2% Asian, and 9.1% Hispanic), and six of them graduated from the program. This evaluation assesses the feasibility, effectiveness, and sustainability of the pilot program using mixed-methods analysis of pre- and post-program surveys, demographic data, and module feedback from enrolled participants. Quantitative analyses employed descriptive statistics to address the small sample size, while qualitative thematic analysis will explore participants' experiences and perceived benefits. Findings will inform program refinement, contribute to the development of a trained survivorship-coaching workforce, and advance efforts to support a workforce that relieves strain on breast cancer medical teams.
