Abstract
A-Z in Oaktown: An Ethnic Studies Approach Through Children's Literature In my project, I discuss the importance of expanding ethnic studies requirements into elementary schools and propose the use of inclusive and culturally relevant children's literature as a resource to engage younger students in ethnic studies curricula. I created an original children's book that celebrates my hometown, Oakland, through the eyes of a young girl, Ximena, who loves her city.
