Abstract

As a growing industry, video streaming services have completely disrupted the way in which we consume at-home entertainment. With so many competitors within the industry, it is important for analysts, investors, and business decision-makers to understand how certain company announcements will affect stock market price. This paper seeks to examine the influence and measure the effect of company announcements of Netflix and its competitors within the streaming industry (Amazon and Disney) and cable industry (Comcast and Dish). Although only finding a few occurrences, my analysis still identifies a few events that had significant cumulative abnormal returns results. But upon examining individual daily abnormal returns, I find additional evidence that the events lead to significant stock price reactions.
