Abstract

In this paper I will be assessing first and foremost assessing the possibility that we live in a simulation. I will be looking at Bostrom’s popular simulation hypothesis mainly as the most referenced and discussed Simulation hypothesis. Prior to this I will establish a lineage of philosophical thought that led to the development of this theory. I will also be studying other niche arguments like ontic pancomputationalism and its variants to develop richer insight into simulation theory in general. Finally I will evaluate the theories in light of arguments for and against before briefly discussing the implications of a simulated reality. Throughout the paper I will add sections that highlight and elucidate how various simulation theories interact and affect each other.

This thesis is restricted to the Claremont Colleges current faculty, students, and staff.
