Abstract

Park Ranger Ferdinand Castillo welcomed visitors to Yosemite National Park from his station at the Tioga Pass gate for 38 years, from 1954 to 1993. The warmth of his greeting, which might include a serenade with his guitar, captivated thousands, a memorable moment. Using hitherto unseen documents and images, David Carle does justice to this public servant.
