Abstract

Abstract:

In this article the author brings together a comprehensive study of the evolution of Kabyle social economic practices, from the distant pasts to the present, through the various phases of colonization to independence. The objectives here are three-fold. In the first instance are the mechanisms and goals of the original local movements of solidarity, and the means by which they mobilized for socio-economic and political objectives. Next there is the impact of the nation-state and globalization on these local solidarities and movements, which demobilized and immobilized them through various legal, socio-economic, and political means. Finally, there is the present and the future, that is, what is being done and can be done, such as the re-creation of a commons and activities towards the development of a socio-economic alternative.
