Description/Abstract
My research focuses on how society constructs gender and sexuality by analyzing how both academics and the media react to Donald Trump’s deviations from normative, hyper-masculine behavior. Currently, society reads his non-normative rhetoric and actions through a heteronormative lens and therefore characterize him as a homosexual. I believe this characterization is both demeaning to the queer community and also not accurate. Instead, it is clear to me that his deviations mark him as having homosocial tendencies, which is more accurate and less problematic.
