Abstract
Increasingly, the 1998 work Unrestricted Warfare written by two Senior Chinese Colonels, Qiao Liang and Wang Xiangsui, is garerning more and more attention in defense and policy circles. It was primarily penned in reaction to the stunning 1991 US led coalition victory in the Gulf War against Iraq. However, the incentive to write it came about as a result of the Taiwan Strait crisis of 1996 when two US carrier battle groups were sent to the region.
