Abstract
This well-written book, by a scholar of Jewish history and archaeology, attempts to shed light on the nature of Jewish identity in the Greco-Roman world. Levine argues that discussion should move beyond the question about whether there was interpenetration of Jewish and Hellenistic cultural systems to questions about how and why such interpenetration took place.
