Abstract
As the new decade begins—and after years of aggressive demand expansion—we find the authorities struggling to control inflationary price rises, the pervasiveness of poverty still unchecked, the level of unemployment continuing to rise, conflicts among policy goals having led to a desperate search for decelerating policies and the determination to eradicate poverty decidedly emasculated. What went wrong?
