Abstract
Smith's edition contributes to our understanding of the development of optics, a discipline of immense importance in the history of science. The authoritative edition of the Arabic text of the Kitab al-Manazir [Sabra 1989] as well as a translation therefrom has long been available[Sabra 1989]. Yet, for detailed study of how this important text impacted Western Latin scientists, the present Latin edition is indispensable.
