Abstract
Existing literature indicates that weather impacts demand for different modes of transportation; however, there are no studies analyzing weather’s impact on micro transits, an emerging mode of transportation. Accordingly, I conduct a case study on a micro transit firm located in the Bay Area of California. Using ridership data with 22,500 observations from AC Transit Flex and hourly weather data, I regress AC Transit Flex’s ridership on hourly weather, holding other factors constant. I also analyze the impact the introduction of AC Transit Flex has on its surrounding BART stations. I find that precipitation and temperature has a statistically significant impact on ridership as travelers are less likely to use AC Flex when it rains. The results also suggest that AC Flex rides does significantly impact BART ridership.
