Abstract

An examination and analysis of the function of claims of sacredness on Mauna Kea in the Hawaiian resistance movement to the Thirty Meter Telescope. This thesis explores how sacred space functions in the Hawaiian movement and pursues a theory of cultural frontiers as sites of contestation, negotiation, and the construction of meta-narratives.

This thesis is restricted to the Claremont Colleges current faculty, students, and staff.
