Abstract
This paper estimates the impact of local labor market conditions on recidivism among 2.2 million offenders released from 12 states between 2000 and 2009. Applying a fixed effects regression model and controlling for offender variation, I find that increased employment opportunities in the construction; retail; and administrative, support, waste management and remediation service industries lead to a reduction in recidivism.
