Abstract
In response to achievement gaps amongst students entering introductory chemistry at Washington State University, a preparatory chemistry course was developed featuring a novel curricular design, flipped-classroom approach, and weekly tutorial sessions led by an undergraduate TA. Cohorts of students completing the preparatory class before entering the introductory chemistry course were compared to their peers through analysis of course GPAs, homework, lab, and assessment scores; The performance of underrepresented groups in STEM (women, first generation, underrepresented minorities) were evaluated to determine what student populations experience greater achievement gaps and propose curricular changes that better support all students.
