Abstract
The purpose of this thesis is to examine the Democratic Party’s immigration messaging and policy strategy in previous and upcoming elections. Through an analysis of the 2016, 2018, and 2020 elections, this paper sets forth a plan of key messages and policies the Democrats can advocate for to best position the party ahead of the 2022 and 2024 elections. This paper also conducts an in-depth analysis of Arizona and Pennsylvania, two key states ahead of the 2022 midterm election, to showcase how the proposed plan will work in each respective state. This paper uses not only previous election data, but also polling data, current immigration policy context, and demographic information to set forth a comprehensive plan and list of key problems that Democrats should pay attention to ahead of the midterm elections.
