Abstract
Characters representative of various social contract theories, both established and modern, are chosen from works in the genre of survival literature. These representatives find themselves shipwrecked together on an island where they must learn to understand each other and critically examine their values if they are to stand a chance at surviving. Discussion of the characters and plot follows the novella, coming to the ultimate conclusion that the 'big' questions will only be answered when humankind is transparent with itself on an individual and societal level.
