Abstract

Magic: The Gathering the trading card game has become a global phenomenon. Capturing the eye of many young and old who wish to enjoy a diverse variety of nerds. Since its first public release in 1993 Magic: The Gathering has grown into a brand that spans the globe. Through that growth it has become so much more than a game to play at middle school lunch tables. Communities love it for the fantasy story that comes with every new set, they love to play the secondary economic market, or participate in the competitive game that is Magic. These different factors create a unique secondary market that I can’t find anywhere else. This paper analyzes price fluctuations in cards using the different characteristics of each card to start understanding the complexities of what makes a Magic: The Gathering Card valuable.

This thesis is restricted to the Claremont Colleges current faculty, students, and staff.
