Abstract

This thesis examines the relationship between H1B visa approvals by industry and industry-specific GDP in the U.S. To example the economic impact of H1B visa approvals, a fixed effects model has been used on a panel dataset comprising of the top 10 employers in each NAICS industry, over the period 2010 to 2022. The results indicate that an increase in Industry H1B visa approvals is associated with a significant and positive increase in Industry GDP. In particular, an increase in H1B approvals in Finance and Insurance, Healthcare, Information, Professional, Scientific and Technical Services, and Real Estate have a positive and significant impact on their respective Industry GDP. These findings suggest that the influx of skilled foreign talent has a positive impact on the U.S. economy.
