Abstract
The United States government has been attempting to ban TikTok in the country for the last four years. So far, the attempts have been unsuccessful, but in March 2024 the United States House of Representatives passed a bill that could potentially lead to a nationwide ban of one of the most popular social media apps in the country because the lawmakers believe that the platform poses a threat to national security. This paper seeks to analyze the reasons behind the potential ban of the social media network, including those listed by the U.S. government. The paper assesses how the broader disintegration of the U.S. - China relations impacted the potential ban and explains why the American government sees TikTok as a threat to the country’s national security.
