Abstract
Golf’s impact within the U.S. is undeniable as it continues to grow at the professional stage as well as among Americans who play recreationally. However, this leads to considerable implications for the type of impact golf has and the operational duties it is responsible for. Many critics point to golf’s detrimental impact towards the social and environmental realm of America, which presents the purpose of this paper. Observing the perceptions and arguments of critics is crucial to see where there is room for change, in addition to benefits of the sport that may be neglected. Examining closely golf’s social and environmental impact reveals urgency for change, yet the overlooked benefits also provide hope for the sport’s sustainability.
