Abstract
Abstract
This thesis examines the evolving relationship between China and Nigeria, with a specific focus on infrastructure development and telecommunications cooperation within the broader framework of China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). It interrogates whether this partnership reflects mutual economic interdependence or reproduces asymmetric dependency dynamics often associated with China–Africa relations. Drawing on interdependence theory and dependency theory as contrasting analytical lenses, the study situates Nigeria–China relations within both global political economy and domestic governance contexts. Through qualitative analysis of policy documents, infrastructure financing arrangements, and sector-specific case studies, the thesis explores how Chinese state-owned and private enterprises—particularly in telecommunications and transport infrastructure—have become deeply embedded in Nigeria’s development landscape
