Abstract
A study of the effect of axial restraint on the bending deflections of centrally-loaded 3inned beams is presented. Exact and approximate solutions are given for the cases of no, partial, and full axial restraint. It is demonstrated that even moderate restraint can significantly increase the stiffness of the beam in response to transverse loading.
