Abstract

Frances Osgood is undoubtedly one of the most alluring women poets before Emily Dickinson. Osgood's poetry has energy, personality, even roguishness at times. These traits, so rare in the popular women poets of that era, almost convince us that Osgood escaped the dead hand of feminine conventions.
