Abstract

Web browsers get their information using the current version of the Hypertext Transfer Protocol, HTTP/2, which is limited by the TCP/IP transport protocol. A new version, HTTP/3, uses the QUIC protocol, which introduces new approaches that promise measurable performance improvements over HTTP/2. However, it is hard to determine if the theoretical benefits of HTTP/3 will translate in the real world. In this project, we built a testing framework to measure the protocols’ actual behavior, especially with regard to how mobile users experience the Internet, and then quantified the performance differences between the two standards

This thesis is restricted to the Claremont Colleges current faculty, students, and staff.
