Abstract
This thesis explores the question of what alternative democracies and police abolition look like in Latin America, specifically Mexico, with a case study of the Purepecha in Michoacan, the Comunitaria in Guerrero, and the Zapatistas in Chiapas. Alternatives to police take different forms, with varying degrees of extremity.
