Abstract
This thesis is a study on Basque and Catalan independence movements. Specifically this thesis focuses on how Basque and Catalan movements developed differently after the Franco dictatorship until present day. This thesis highlights the importance of coalition building, elite choices and identity salience in the development of these cases.
