Abstract
The Surrealist movement’s leader, André Breton, believed that Surrealism could not be expressed through music. I explore why Breton was against the possibility of a Surrealist music, and I argue that the goals of Surrealism give it a unique position in the history aesthetics that allows its expression through music and thus gives music a wider range of power than that with which it was historically credited.
