Abstract

As activist Grace Lee Boggs would often say, “What time is it on the clock of the world?”This to me is a call to remember the aliveness of the moment – the dynamism of our conditions and the constant relationship between suffering and struggles for a different future. No moment is dead. In this thesis I will explore the effects of ideologies of capitalism, which work very hard to make that question – “What time is it on the clock of the world?” – unintelligible. I will also explore works of science fiction that flex against the constraining of our imagination under capitalism.

This thesis is restricted to the Claremont Colleges current faculty, students, and staff.
