Abstract
The Impey Album was a collection of nature paintings that was made under the patronage of East India Company Supreme Court judge, Sir Elijah Impey and his wife Lady Mary Impey. The artwork was primarily done by Mughal artist, Shaikh Zain ud-Din. This thesis looks at how the Album represents India-European entanglement and knowledge and artistic production in the eighteenth century. This work examines how Elijah Impey and Zain ud-Din interact through the work and how it relates to the larger processes of knowledge-power relations at the time. Artistic and knowledge production were integral to East India Company systems in the eighteenth century.
