Abstract
"A Cultural Analysis of Contact Dialects: Spanglish and Italglish in American Popular Culture," presents two language specific theses exploring the themes of identity and culture in contact dialects as represented in American popular culture. Through an analysis of the TV shows Saturday Night Live and Jersey Shores, as well as TikTok, the importance of dialects in the prevention of language loss is examined. "A Sociolinguistic Analysis on Fresa and U.S. Spanglish" explores the language ideologies and attitudes present in the contact dialect of Spanglish through a sociolinguistic viewpoint. The study examines the diverse sentiments surrounding the dialect in communities in both the United States and Mexico City.
