Abstract

The points on elliptic curves will form a group under addition. We can create an endomorphism on an elliptic curve by doubling all the points on the curve, called a doubling map. The Lattes map is defined around such a multiplication-by-d map, and very surprisingly, turns out to be chaotic. In this thesis I discuss the Lattes map and why it is chaotic, how we might define chaos in a system like this, and how many of these maps can be generated from different elliptic curves.

This thesis is restricted to the Claremont Colleges current faculty, students, and staff.
