Abstract
Love liberates. By defining love as a practice of respect, care, commitment, knowledge, responsibility, trust, honesty, and a form of becoming, love becomes a force opposing the oppressive nature of capitalism. But what does this force look like? This paper argues that dance can be the action of love. This theory is explored through broad dance research into three of the eight principles of love: respect, responsibility, and becoming. Additionally, it reviews the accompanying performance Dancing Community, which attempted to create a choreographic process founded on a framework of love. This work asks, how do we love through dance and how can we make dance loving?
