Abstract

This thesis reflects on a semester-long collaborative clinic project completed in partnership with the Santa Ana Regional Water Quality Control Board (SARWQB) and and other group members including Anna Taufen, Faith Henderson, and May Ling Roberts. Our work supported SARWQB initiatives in tribal and ecological research, and community outreach within the Santa Ana watershed. The clinic was divided into three rotating projects: analyzing tribal websites for a Basin Plan update; planning a community River Walk event and organizing a career panel connecting Claremont Colleges students with professionals in environmental fields. My contributions included tribal research for an annotated bibliography, spatial analysis of potential River Walk sites, and outreach support through event planning. The project also involved research on indigenous and ecological relationships with the Santa Ana River using historical texts and the Barbara Drake Collection. This thesis documents my individual contributions along with a reflection and suggestions for future projects. Overall, this experience deepened my understanding of water governance, indigenous and ecological history, and community engagement in watershed management.

This thesis is restricted to the Claremont Colleges current faculty, students, and staff.
