Abstract

A critical analysis paper that explores how the manifestation of grief and guilt as responses to trauma appear as the uncanny in Mike Flanagan's The Haunting of Hill House (2018) and Midnight Mass (2021) to demonstrate how horror has evolved to no longer portray evil as an outside "Other", but as a terror that comes from within ourselves.

This thesis is restricted to the Claremont Colleges current faculty, students, and staff.
