Abstract
This thesis examines how Sri Lankan Tamil diasporic communities have been reconstructing the lost history of the Sri Lankan Tamil genocide. Focusing on the specific Sri Lankan Tamil diaspora in Scarborough, Toronto, this project traces how a new uniquely diasporic identity was created through exile and displacement. Through a combination of personal narrative, analysis of archival materials, and literary analysis of the novel Love Marriage by V.V. Ganeshananthan, this project foregrounds the importance of diasporic writing as a political tool that can intervene against state censorship.
