Abstract
How was Hellenistic Erotic Epigram shaped by its inscriptional, epitaphic predecessors? How were its images and themes influenced by the oral tradition of erotic poetry? All My Little Words is an exploration into the ways Hellenistic Erotic Epigram combines the attributes of two diametrically opposed genres to create poetry that encapsulates both the elusive presence of eros, and the unknowable, yet unavoidable, absence of death. Interspersed with this literary argument are sections of creative writing and poetry, influenced by the practice of autotheory, which aim to integrate the historical argument into a modern perspective on desire, love, and love poetry.
