Abstract

We start by introducing the types of functions often worked with in analytic number theory, those being arithmetical functions. We then work our way towards deriving the functional equation of the Riemann Zeta function in order to analytically continue it. To do this we first go over introductory complex analysis including; holomorphic and meromorphic functions, Laurent series, residues, and the gamma function, then completing an in depth proof of the functional equation.

This thesis is restricted to the Claremont Colleges current faculty, students, and staff.
