Abstract

This study aims to look at the effectiveness of the Promoting Alternative THinking Strategies (PATHS) Social Emotional Learning curriculum when taught through the second and fourth principles of the RISE learning theory. The implementation will take effect within United States elementary schools, and consenting students will participate in the quasi-experimental design where classrooms will either be assigned to the control group, PATHS program taught as normal, or the experiment, PATHS taught with the RISE principles. During the study, participants will complete pre-experiment, post-experiment, and follow-up assessments to measure differences in mean scores of competence and application throughout the implementation. I anticipate results consistent with my hypotheses that predict an enhancement in the effectiveness of the PATHS program when taught with principles of the RISE learning theory. If significant results are obtained, this could open the door for more implementations of new learning theories within the United States education system to promote better learning outcomes and subsequently a more educated and curious populace.
