Abstract

This thesis examines Levinas' formulation of ethical transcendence and the possibilities for subjecthood under different formulations of transcendence. This thesis looks at the inherent violence of the same-making project that transcendence typically carries and investigates how ethical transcendence deals with this. In order to do so, this thesis puts Levinas in conversation with the Lurianic creation myth.
