Abstract

Rooted in the domestic and agricultural traditions of my Cape Verdean ancestry, Traces of Care and Joy (2025) explores clay as both material and metaphor—an archive of care, migration, and memory. The hand-built vessel carries traces of gesture and ritual, echoing the tactile labors of my grandmother, great-grandmother, and the Cape Verdean women potters whose work sustained their communities.
