Abstract

My reflection traces the development of In Harmony, a cross-cultural exhibition created in collaboration with Japanese artist Hisakazu Suzuki, emerging from a chance encounter and realized through a shared commitment to peace. Presented at the 4th Annual Peace Conference, the exhibition explores how artistic practice can transcend language and cultural boundaries to foster connection, hope, and collective vision during a time of global uncertainty. Centered on my series Chromatic Meditations, the work investigates the inner dimensions of peace through mindful, ritual-based painting practices shaped by pregnancy and the anticipation of new life. These emotionally resonant color-field landscapes invite contemplative engagement, where color, breath, and rhythm converge to create spaces of calm reflection. The project positions art as both an intimate and social act, one that cultivates presence, models peaceful living, and encourages small, intentional gestures that may ripple outward into broader cultural transformation.

Author/Artist Bio

Inspired by the vibrant landscapes of California and her love of travel, dance, and music, Jessica creates expressive, colorful paintings that celebrate life. Her work uses color as a primary language to explore the beauty and complexity of the human experience, guided by a belief that art can uplift, connect, and bring meaning to our time on Earth. Through layered color, organic forms, and gestural movement, her paintings invite viewers into contemplative spaces where emotion, memory, and atmosphere can unfold. Movement, rhythm, and harmony play an important role in her process, reflecting the influence of music and dance as well as the natural rhythms of light and nature. Jessica earned her MFA in Painting from Claremont Graduate University in 2020, graduating with honors and receiving the Karl and Beverly Benjamin Fellowship. She also holds a BFA from Loyola Marymount University’s School of Film and Television with a Minor in Studio Arts. Her work has been featured in international residencies and awarded honors in juried exhibitions, and it is held in numerous private collections. In 2022, a large-scale painting was acquired for public display at Ontario International Airport in California. Jessica currently lives and works in Los Angeles, where she maintains a studio at the historic Brewery Artist Studios, continuing to explore color, movement, and abstraction as pathways toward connection and reflection.
