Abstract

This interview spotlights Sara Kapadia, founder of the STEAM Journal, tracing the origins, evolution, and enduring vision of a publication designed to bridge the divide between art and science. Emerging from her dual experiences as an artist and education researcher, Sara created the journal to address a perceived gap between academic and creative communities: spaces that, while often siloed, engage parallel questions about the world. Grounded in her doctoral research on the shared curiosity of artists and scientists, the journal advances a transdisciplinary approach that invites contributors to move fluidly between visual, written, and scholarly forms. In conversation, Sara reflects on the broader implications of integrating arts and sciences, arguing that such collaboration restores a more holistic, human-centered mode of inquiry often lost in specialized systems of education and knowledge production. She emphasizes the essential role of the arts in navigating an increasingly complex world, positioning artistic practice as fundamental to human understanding and survival. The interview also offers personal insights into her creative journey, shaped by family, storytelling, and a commitment to imaginative life paths.
