Abstract / Synopsis
Fifty-five word stories have achieved a certain currency as a reflective format, perhaps especially in medicine. Many of them turn out to be poems. Here is one such story inviting the reader to consider the nature of the absent, of the 'missing', of zero, and the philosophical underpinnings of mathematics.
