Abstract / Synopsis
In the period after World War II, many significant changes took place in Czechoslovakia. This paper focuses on the changes that were taking place in the field of mathematical education. Education, in general, acquired a new structure as a response to the school reform of 1948 and subsequent reforms. Great emphasis began to be placed on polytechnic education, of which mathematics was a key part. Teachers sought out ways to find mathematical talents and to excite students about mathematics in various ways.This paper focuses on mathematical circles (whether tutoring or inspirational) and other motivational methods such as mathematics competitions that teachers used to bring students to mathematics.
