Journal of the Language Association of Eastern Africa
Journal Policies and Guidelines
Our editorial policies, guidelines, and style sheet are based on those of Studies in African Linguistics and Glossa, the latter of which was based on The Generic Style Rules for Linguistics (version of December 2014), developed under a CC-BY license by Martin Haspelmath.
Publication Frequency
The journal is published online with one or two issues published per year. The first issue includes proceedings papers from LAEA conferences; the second includes articles submitted to JLAEA independently of the conference proceedings. Articles are made available as soon as they are ready to ensure that there are no unnecessary delays in getting content publicly available.
Since articles are published upon completion, proceedings articles from a single LAEA conference will often be spread over multiple years.
Open Access Policy
JLAEA provides immediate open access to its content via the journal website.
There is no embargo on the JLAEA’s publications. Published papers are immediately available online.
All papers published by JLAEA are published under a Creative Commons Attribution licence (CC BY), by which authors retain copyright of their work, and are therefore free to republish that work in part or whole. Authors grant JLAEA the right of first publication (JLAEA does not publish previously-published papers).
We encourage the publication of preprints and postprints on author or university websites, repositories, or elsewhere. We appreciate links to the original publication.
Journal of the Language Association of Eastern Africa has no general rules about the formatting of articles upon initial submission. There are, however, rules governing the formatting of the final submission. See Final Manuscript Preparation Guidelines for details.
