Abstract
While both of these books address the health care system, one focuses on the way it intersects with the beginning of our lives and the other, with the end. Both enlist the voices of the people involved: Robbie Davis-Floyd draws on interviews with one hundred pregnant women and mothers, and with midwives, nurses, childbirth educators and obstetricians; Timothy Diamond builds his analysis out of the voices of the workers and residents in nursing homes.
