Abstract
Around the world, there is this idea of "the Parisian woman" who is beautiful, skinny, fashionable and wealthy. This thesis aims to examine the stereotype of the Parisian woman. It focuses first on the history of fashion and beauty standards in France, asking how this stereotype came to be. It then looks at the Parisian woman in the 21st century, asking questions like "how does this stereotype affect French women" and "how is this stereotype portrayed across the world?". Lastly, it examines the media in which two French companies, Galeries Lafayette and Air France, put into the world and how their portrayal of women fit into the stereotype.
